Kensenshikan karate is a positive experience for all students

Kensenshikan is a karate based martial arts that incorporates traditional karate systems, Iaido swordsmanship, and relevant and practical self defense. Our system is built on a foundation of achieving all round fitness, flexibility and self discipline.

Shihan Marc Sofinowski 6th Dan founded the Kensenshikan system of karate in 2019. His method of teaching karate is uplifting and life changing. Many who train in our system gain self confidence, regain fitness and a positive outlook. We pride ourselves on helping our students achieve more and to do the best they can.

Unlike many other karate schools, our system of karate draws on training methods from the Shorinjiryu Kenkokan system, that is:

to punch with a vertical fist. This is direct influence from Shaolin Wushu
to utilise the heel for front kicks
twisting and dropping motion for additional power when executing techniques
to practice realistic yakusoku kumite - pre-arranged karate sparring forms
Koshiki based kumite - the use of protective equipment to allow students to fully test their techniques with intentional power (unlike sport karate)
Practice of weapons (buki ho)
